Subsidy removal: FG, Labour unions to meet again June 19

, ,

The meeting between the federal government and the labour unions ended on Monday with a resolution to reconvene on June 19 to agree on implementation framework on resolutions reached over subsidy removal.

Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who led the government side, disclosed this at the end of a meeting between labour and government representatives at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said that the meeting agreed on a seven point resolution to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) on Nigerians.

“The Federal Government, the TUC and the NLC to establish a joint committee to review the proposal for any wage increase or award and establish a framework and timeline for implementation.

“The Federal Government, the TUC and the NLC to review World Bank Financed Cash transfer scheme and propose inclusion of low-income earners in the programme.

“The Federal Government, the TUC and the NLC to revive the CNG conversion programme earlier agreed with Labour centres in 2021 and work out detailed implementation and timing,” Gbajabiamila said.

The Compressed natural gas (CNG) is a fuel gas mainly composed of methane, compressed to less than 1 per cent of the volume it occupies at standard atmospheric pressure.

It is the cleanest burning fuel operating today and brings about less vehicle maintenance and longer engine life.

Gbajabiamila added that meeting also agreed to review issues hindering effective delivery in the education sector and propose solutions for implementation.

“The Labour centres and the Federal Government to review and establish the framework for completion of the rehabilitation of the nation’s refineries.

“The Federal Government to provide a framework for the maintenance of roads and expansion of rail networks across the country.

“All other demands submitted by the TUC to the Federal Government will be assessed by the joint committee.”

He stressed that the NLC agreed to suspend the notice of strike forthwith to enable further consultations as well as continue the ongoing engagements and secure closure on the resolutions.

The resolution was signed by the Presidents and Secretaries of the NLC and TUC, and Ms Kachollom Daju, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Labour Employment.

The federal government had earlier obtained a court order restraining the Labour unions from embarking on a nationwide industrial action on Wednesday.

Why Tinubu deserves Igbo support – Gbajabiamila

,

Speaker of the House of Representatives ,Rep Femi Gbajabiamila said the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) , Sen. Bola Tinubu will serve the interests of all parts of Nigeria if elected in 2023.

Gbajabiamila made the statement at the weekend in Lagos, at the Surulere Constituency 2 APC Town Hall meeting.

He said the APC presidential candidate was passionate about the development of Nigeria, adding he would care for all the peoples of the country, if elected.

“One thing I can assure all Nigerians is that when Asiwaju Bola Tinubu becomes the president of this country, he will be president for all.

“He will care for the Yoruba people, he will care for South South , he will care for the Igbo, he will care for the Nupe and the northerners.

“He is the only candidate that has proven himself well.He has the capacity and will deliver”, Gbajabiamila said.

The Speaker particularly appealed to Igbo to invest their votes in Tinubu to take the country to greater heights .

He said it was unfair not to vote for Tinubu, simply because he is not from the South East or any other region apart from his.

Gbajabiamila said Tinubu had done well for the Igbo and urged people from the region to give him all the support to lead the country.

“To our brothers and sisters from the South East, has Asiwaju done anything to offend anybody in the South East? Has he done anything wrong?

“Tell me one state in Nigeria where you have a non -indigene in the cabinet. I can tell you ,the only state where that happens is Lagos state.

“The Director-General of Budget Office in Nigeria, one of the highest positions in Nigeria, what is his name? Ben Akabueze. Is he from from Lagos? No ,he is from the South East and Asiwaju put him there.

” He determines the budget.Whatever any money any agency or department is looking for, it must come to Akabueze’s table. He determines whether to give or not to give. That is a man from the South East, put there by Asiwaju Tinubu.

“And I can give you many more names. So, why will a man that has done much for the Igbos now come to you for votes ,and you tell him he has not done bad ,he has done well ,but because he is not from the South East ,we have somebody from the South East to vote for. I think that is not the way to go,” he said .

Gbajabiamila said the 2023 election was about the progress of the country, and urged Nigerians to vote for competence rather than tribe or religion .

The Speaker said though he represents Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives ,he was at the Surulere 2 APC Federal Constituency meeting to ensure victory for the party in the area.

He said it was regrettable that APC lost the constituency to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 and 2019, adding that it was time for APC to take back the area.

He urged party members to shun in-fighting and mobilise support for the victory of the party in the area, come 2023.

Speaking ,Mr Agboola Dabiri , a former Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Lagos State, described APC as the party for Nigerians.

He urged the people of Surulere Constituency 2 to vote the party’s candidates.

Dabiri, chairman of an APC task force set up to deliver the constituency to the party, said voting APC in the area would mean delivery of democratic dividends to the people .

“You all know what the people of constituency 1 ,represented by the Speaker ,are enjoying .

“They are too numerous to mention. You too will enjoy the same and more if you vote our candidate to represent you at the House of Representatives.

“The PDP that is representing you now is not the best for you .You should do the right thing in 2023.”he said.

He said though Gbajabiamila represents Surulere 1 Federal Constituency, he had executed many projects in Surulere 2 .

Dabiri said the Speaker had installed streetlights in many streets in Itire- Ikate and Coker Aguda in Constituency 2 and had constructed many roads in the constituency.

He said it would be better for the people of the area if they have an APC Rep in 2023.

Mr Ahmed Apatira ,Chairman ,Itire- Ikate Local Council Development Area, commended Gbajabiamila for all his projects in Surulere 2 despite not representing the area.

He promised that the council and the party would do their best to deliver the area to APC in 2023.

Mr Rasak Olalekan ,Chairman ,Coker -Aguda LCDA ,commended the Speaker for extending love to the people of constituency 2.

He said the Speaker had demonstrated that he was a caring leader with his many projects in the constituency.

Gbajabiamila speaks at the Lagos rally

Gbajabiamila bombs Tinubu’s traducers

,

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has sent a damning message to traducers doubting the age of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a speech at the joint APC presidential and governorship rally in Lagos, Gbajabiamila asked the Doubting Thomases to go consult the late mother of Tinubu, Abibat Mogaji, to authenticate Tinubu’s age.

“They will ask you a lot of questions. I want to tell you what to tell them. There is something called Frequently Asked Questions. When they ask you, who is Tinubu, tell them Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House said Tinubu is the greatest politician in modern-day Nigerian politics,” he said.

“They will ask you, ‘How old is he? What is his age?’ Tell them that Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House said he is the age his mother said he is. And if they doubt his age, they should go and meet his mother to reconfirm.”

“They will tell you, ‘But they said he did not go to school.’ Tell them that I, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House, said he is more educated than all the contestants put together.”

On allegations that Tinubu was indicted in the United States, Gbajabiamila asked APC devotees to simply tell sceptics that “the Americans have said repeatedly that they do not know what they are talking about.”

He also countered allegations of corruption against Tinubu with the argument that the APC presidential candidate was never found guilty, while attributing the choice of two Muslims on the party’s presidential ticket to a divine plan.

“They will say, ‘But they say that he is corrupt.’ Tell them he is the most investigated Nigerian presidential candidate in the history of Nigeria, and nothing has been found on him,” the Speaker said.

“When they ask about a Muslim vice president, tell them that God is moving mysteriously in ways that they cannot understand; that he is about to do something in Nigeria.

“Tell them, in Shettima, God is about to live out the scripture of the rejected stone that became the cornerstone. If they ask you, what has he done to develop Nigeria, tell them he has developed men and women who in turn have developed Nigeria.

“Tell them to give you one name of any other candidate that has developed men and women of consequence today in the Nigerian political and socio-economic development.”

Gbajabiamila said his speech was majorly to woo undecided voters, whom he described as a “very small group outside.”

Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man of many traditional honours across the country, from north to south, west to east. The array of titles he has garnered was only comparable to that of Chief Moshood Abiola, winner of the 1993 Presidential election.
