APC PCC to Atiku: Get lawyers to plead your case in court

,

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate to get his lawyers to plead his case in court rather than leading a street protest.

Mr Bayo Onanuga, Director, Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), gave the advice in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

The statement was the APC PCC’s reaction to an Atiku-led protest organised by PDP members against the outcome of the Feb. 25 Presidential and National Assembly election.

Onanuga also advised Abubakar to respect his age and the high office of the Vice-Presidency of Nigeria he once occupied.

“When the defeated Atiku Abubakar told the whole world last week that he would seek redress in court over the outcome of election, little did we know that he did not plan to be guided by his own promise.

“Going by his political antecedents, it was rather not surprising that Atiku, days later, led a band of protesters, nay jesters in Abuja, to the Headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“What was on display today by Alhaji Atiku and his motley crowd was a new low from the perennial election loser.

“With Atiku staging a theatre of the absurd, we fail to see how a march to INEC by a scanty crowd will provide any victory window for him and his fragmented PDP,” Onanuga said.

He added that the only recourse open to Atiku after the electoral umpire declared Sen. Bola Tinubu, a former two-term Governor of Lagos State as President-elect, was the Election Petition Tribunal.

Onanuga further added that instead of Atiku and his party to wisely spend their time to gather the so-called evidences they hope to present before the courts, they were busy dancing on the streets.

He said they were also causing traffic nuisance to residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)who were going to work on a Monday morning.

Onanuga added that the APC PCC does not expect a former Vice-President of Nigeria, a statesman and a presidential candidate to be so jobless as to have time to disturb public peace.

This, he said, was especially over an electoral outcome he had already said he would challenge in court.

“We want to admonish Alhaji Atiku to respect his age and the high office of the Vice-Presidency of Nigeria he once occupied.

“He should stop being teleguided by Dino Melaye, who disclosed scandalously that N400 billion was wasted on the election, which was clear at the outset that Atiku was bound to lose.

“Atiku should avoid being misdirected by other court jesters in his party, who continued to campaign after the election, still spewing their inanities against the President-elect,” Onanuga said.

He described such persons as mere comic characters in a travelling theatre group, saying that INEC headquarters was not a court where the prayers of Atiku could be answered.

Onanuga stressed that no amount of theatrical display would give Atiku and his party succour, adding that the honourable and lawful path to take was for him to get his lawyers to plead his case in court.

“He should stop throwing tantrums like a baby whose candy was taken away over an election he clearly lost due to his own poor judgment.

“Mismanagement of his own party and violation of power rotational arrangement between the North and the South.

“The PDP presidential candidate dug his own grave, in his last election and, absurdly, he is trying to rewrite the script of his own utter failure,” Onanuga said.

He wondered how Atiku and his party hoped to win, when he had admitted that Peter Obi, the Labour Party President candidate, his running mate in 2019, ran away with traditional PDP votes from the South-East and South-South.

The APC PCC Director of Media and Publicity said it was preposterous that while Atiku was disturbing public peace, chanting phantom electoral victory, Obi was making same claim.

“We think both men have embarrassed themselves enough and it is high time they both resolved who between them is the supposed winner that will challenge our party’s victory in court.

“We advise Atiku to retire honourably from politics and move to his abode in Dubai. At 77 in November, Atiku does not have age on his side again.

“He had participated in his last election and hopefully, he had learnt worthy lessons, never to place his selfish interest above party and established principles in his party and the polity,” Onanuga said

Opposition parties’ attempt to discredit presidential election will fail–APC PCC

PRESS STATEMENT

ALLOW INEC PERFORM ITS DUTIES: OPPOSITION PARTIES’ ATTEMPT TO DISCREDIT ELECTION WILL FAIL

We have noticed the disingenuous attempts by the opposition parties, spokesmen of their campaign councils and their hired talking heads on Television and Radio Stations to discredit the presidential and National Assembly elections conducted nationwide yesterday.

Noteworthy are spokespersons of Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council and the Peoples Democratic Party/Atiku Presidential Campaign Council.

Two persons we consider as respectable citizens, Professor Pat Utomi and Director-General of Peter Obi Campaign Council, Mr. Akin Osuntokun threw caution to wind by their inciting and incendiary comments on social media and TV stations where they have been making baseless and irresponsible allegations of electoral manipulations and other malpractice against our party and the electoral umpire, all in a bid to cause disaffection and civil unrest in the country.

We must also stress that we have noticed many partisan talking heads claiming to be Election Observers on radio and TV stations who are presenting skewed and patently false narratives about the general conduct of the election across the country.

Both Labour Party and PDP have accused INEC of conspiracy to rig election result in favour of our party, anchoring their allegation on the agency’s inability to upload election results on its website.

While we call on INEC to expedite action on the process of uploading the results, we want to state categorically that there is nothing unusual about the seeming delay.

INEC returning officers bringing the results to the National Collation Centre from the 36 states, may be contending with possible travel logistics as witnessed on Day One of the collation on Sunday, when only Ekiti state was ready with its result.

It is worth stating that election results have been announced and made public at polling units and duly signed by accredited party agents in line with the Electoral Law. There is no political party that does not have election results from all the over 176,000 polling units across the country except for few locations election didn’t hold. The Abuja Collation is merely ceremonial.

While the law stipulates that the INEC Chairman who is the National Returning Officer for the Presidential election should declare the result, it is also a fact that no party can claim ignorance about its performance from every polling unit through the Situation Rooms updates from party agents.

This brazen attempt to discredit this election that is adjudged to be the most peaceful, credible, open, transparent, free and most fair election in the history of our country will fail.

We suspect that the opposition parties making unnecessary fuss over the results of the poll are only afraid of facing the reality of their defeat. Elections are not a do or die affair. They are meant to be won by some and lost by some.

The 2023 Presidential election has been successfully conducted and results announced at polling units, wards, local councils and at the state level.

We advise politicians to allow the remaining part of the process to go on without intimidation and harassment of INEC.

We call on the security agencies to be alert and ruthlessly deal with anyone seeking to destabilise our country with reckless, subversive and obnoxious statements on the social media, TV and radio platforms.

APC PCC launches Thinking Cap App for youths

,

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has launched an application titled: “The Thinking Caps” to bridge knowledge gap among young Nigerians, ahead of 2023 general election.

Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the APC PCC Director of Strategic Communications said this at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said the app, among other things, was expected to educate, provide vital information and publish the requisite capacity to think out of the box.

He said it was also to provide information to the youth on the antecedents of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate and Sen. Kashim Shettima when they both served as governors of Lagos and Borno.

Idris said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that youths especially who were probably not born when Tinubu was Lagos State governor irrespective of political affiliations got educated about his antecedents and APC government and the opposition.

He explained that the app would have a quiz feature which would be a means of educating youths by getting them to attempt questions, have fun, and be informed while getting some form of rewards in terms of recharge cards.

He said that the app included news feed where end users could read news and articles about the APC presidential campaign.

Idris added that the app also included gallery icon where audio, infographics and video content could be viewed and shared on various social media with capacity to directly engage the 93.4m registered voters.

Idris while justifying the initiative, said: “The demographic analysis of our population shows that the youth aged 35 and below constitute over 60 per cent of our population.

“It means Nigeria is a very young country, too young to know that there was a world without computers and GSM phones, not to talk of internet and social media.

“As far as these youth are concerned, End-SARS protest was the biggest civil disobedience and fight for citizens’ rights that has ever happened.

“They cannot understand what the older population mean when they talk about military rule and how rights and privileges of citizens were curtailed.

“They have no idea that some people came face to face with gun-wielding soldiers and some paid the supreme price fighting for democracy.

“They are not familiar with what it means to be pro-democracy activists, and the sacrifices they made that culminated in the democracy we enjoy today,” Idris said.

According to him, if 60 per cent of the country’s population do not witness these events and have no knowledge about them, they will not able to make informed choice amongst the front-runners in the coming presidential election.

He said this was with particular reference to Tinubu, adding that the “Thinking Caps” app therefore became handy to bridge the knowledge gap and bring the youthful population to support the Tinubu-Shettima presidential ticket.

“When we say Tinubu’s Lagos for instance, they wonder what we mean because they were either unborn or too young to know the hitherto decrepit nature of Oshodi, Mushin, Obalende, Ojuelegba, CMS, amongst others.

“They don’t know what Lekki was or the existential threat that Victoria Island faced because of the ocean surge.

“They have no idea of the state of the Lagos infrastructure or the general quality of life of Lagosians before Tinubu became governor.

“Same way they have no idea about the great achievements of Sen. Kashim Shettima, Tinubu’s Vice-Presidential running mate as governor of an insurgency-ridden Borno,”he said.

He said that the APC PCC had a responsibility to fill this knowledge gap and educate this critical demography with facts about Tinubu and the party’s opponents.

“This app educates the youths about the 16 years of misrule under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“With the launch of the app today, we are poised to uniquely tell our story and market our candidate as the best amongst the rest.

“With 24 days to the elections, the time to convince the electorate to secure an emphatic victory cannot be more auspicious.

“The Thinking Caps” is our innovation to get this done so that Tinubu can install Renewed Hope to the benefit of all Nigerians,”the APC PCC Director of Strategic Communications stressed.

Mr Dele Alake Adviser, Media and Communication, APC PCC said that although the target of the app was youths, it was useful to everyone, adding that its traction was overwhelming.

He said coming up with the app 24 days to the presidential election was not late.

“It is gaining traction even as we speak, the timing is not late at all, the app will help clear all doubt in the minds of youths, especially concerning Tinubu our presidential candidate,” he said

APC, Tinubu welcome Nigerians to year of renewed hope and victory

PRESS STATEMENT

2023: LET’S MOVE FORWARD TO A YEAR OF RENEWED HOPE AND VICTORY

In a few hours, 2023 shall beckon on us. All of us must seize this divine moment of grace and thank our stars for this opportunity to be among the living.

We do this as we pray for the repose of those who could not make it in the conviction that their souls are resting in peace. We also pray for those who might have gone through the year 2022 with some challenges that the new year will usher in great tidings.

2023 is significant to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the people of this blessed nation. It provides another opportunity to the people, the true and authentic sovereigns, to delegate to elected representatives in the legislative and executive arms their fundamental, inalienable rights to participate in making decisions over the human and material resources of our country.
This is a duty that every citizen qualified to vote cannot transfer to another person. It is a responsibility that should not be exchanged for money. It is a sacrifice for the consolidation of democracy and federalism, the sacred values of our Constitution.

Every vote is a testament of renewed hope, the certainty of victory over poverty and the conviction that our country carries within its bosom the potentials of the world’s next super power, indeed, the first black super power.

Nigerians all over the world have sown those seeds of greatness in the work they do and the positive impact they are making as doctors, lawyers, engineers, entertainers, athletes, teachers and professionals in all fields of endeavour.

The coming administration of APC under the leadership of Asiwaju Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima, when elected, by the goodwill of Nigerians, shall put an aeroplane on the tarmac already built by President Buhari that will take us at supersonic speed to our destination. The world shall watch Nigeria soar higher and higher.
Security, infrastructure, education, health, housing, tourism shall be transformed to provide jobs and boost the economy.

To move from where we are to where we want to be, we need to maximise our resources, feed ourselves with what we grow, give our youths education that we make them excel, provide shelter for the homeless and bring constant electricity and technology to make production easier and convenient.

2023 is our chance to make these dreams come true. Let us seize the moment.

As the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Party, with 41 million registered members, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu presents the best vision for the future for our collective prosperity with pledges that are practical, immediate and valuable to our journey towards development. The current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has tried its best in spite of its challenges. It is like building a tarmac, a solid, concrete foundation.

The APC Presidential candidate and his running mate have clearly laid out a grand vision for a better Nigeria in their Action Plan.
Let us seize this moment as we work to vote for the All Progressives Congress in the new year to continue the progressive governance we started over seven years ago.

We wish you a happy and prosperous new Year.

PRESS STATEMENT

APC PCC demands apology from ThisDay and its publisher

ThisDay newspaper carried its campaign of calumny against our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, too far on Friday, with a fake report about the death of a respected medical doctor, Kolapo Akande, who was the husband of Lola Akande, a commissioner in Lagos.

The report denigrated Kolapo Akande and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the duo of being involved in drug trade.

Not caring a hoot about the need to respect the dead, the paper painted Akande as a drug lord, who had ‘lived under the radar’ and had stayed aloof from people”. Unknown to ThisDay, their imagined ‘hibernating’ Kolapo was an Accord Party candidate for the House of Representatives some years back.

But in the paper’s pursuit of its jaundiced, cash and carry journalism, it gleefully reported that Kolapo Akande was the same Mueez Akande mentioned in the shuttered 30 year-old drug investigation against our candidate in the U.S.

But it was all false. ThisDay wrote a mere fiction and had relied on a false tweet by one David Hundeyin, a hatchet writer and so-called investigative journalist, who has identified himself as a Peter Obi supporter.

Any reasonable publishing house ought to be wary about any information coming from such a biased person. But not ThisDay. Anything that portrays Tinubu in a very bad light is fair game, as such a report will justify the tons of Naira that accompanies it.

The report has, however. turned into a huge embarrassment for the paper and further dented its credibility and integrity. ThisDay should be truly ashamed of its ethical standards. It descended so low that even the despicable David Hundeyin, said to be desperate for asylum in the UK, excoriated the newspaper for the report.

Without sounding remorseful, Hundeyin recanted his tweet and wrote: “Not sure why ThisDay published such a story without confirming it, but my information now is that Dr Kolapo Akande who just died is the elder brother of Mueez Adegboyega Akande, (who is still very much alive.) As such I’m taking down my earlier tweet with the ThisDay story link”.

In his earlier full tweet, the reckless journalist, whose modus operandi is more like Alex Jones of the U.S. based Infowars had suggested that Tinubu masterminded Kolapo Akande’s death, quoting fictional ‘back channel sources’.

What a wicked, unconscionable lie!

At the heart of journalism is the credo that a medium should seek to verify its information before dishing it out to the public. ThisDay, just like its sister Arise TV News, has now clearly shown that it does not operate by such standards.

We have waited for the past 48 hours, hoping the paper will show some remorse and apologise to the Akandes and Asiwaju Tinubu over the malicious report. We are surprised it has not taken such a dignified step.

WE now formally demand a full apology from the paper and its publisher, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, for the utterly unprofessional report.

We hope henceforth the paper will seek to be driven by the ethical ideals of journalism and not other material considerations. In view of the established evidence of violation of the core ethics of journalism, we demand that the Nigeria Press Council take appropriate disciplinary action against Thisday to save journalism at this sensitive period from the merchants of falsehood and abusers of the public trust that the press embodies.

We call on the Independent National Electoral Commission to invoke the relevant sections of the Electoral Act 2022 to sue Thisday and any other medium that commits flagrant violation of editorial rules to the courts.

These are the only remedies to the reckless journalism of Thisday.

They are the guarantees that the provisions of the Constitution mandating the Press as the Fourth Estate of the Realm shall be protected.

APC PCC mourns Lagos Assembly member AbdulSobur Olawale

,

PRESS STATEMENT

We express our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the immediate family, friends, associates of Late Hon. AbdulSobur Olawale (Omititi) who passed on yesterday in Jos after attending our Presidential Campaign Flag Off.

We particularly send our condolences to his colleagues at the Lagos State House of Assembly where he dutifully served his people of Mushin Constituency 2 and Lagos State in general.

Hon. Olawale was an accomplished politician and grassroots mobiliser who stayed committed to the ideal of progressive politics and supported our leader and Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu till the end.

It was his commitment to Asiwaju Tinubu’s Presidential bid and progressive politics that made him travel to Jos to be part of the historic flag off of our campaign rally when he was not in the best of health.

The progressive family in Lagos State and Nigeria has lost a gallant believer in our ideology and we pray that his family will find comfort in his good deeds.

We pray Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest.

About

Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man of many traditional honours across the country, from north to south, west to east. The array of titles he has garnered was only comparable to that of Chief Moshood Abiola, winner of the 1993 Presidential election.
