Uba Sani elected Kaduna state governor

Senator Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna State.

INEC Returning Officer for Kaduna State, Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto, made the declaration on Monday.

According to Bilbis, Sani polled 730,002 votes to defeat his closest rival, Isa Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 719,196 votes.

The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Jonathan Asake came third with 58,283 votes while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate, Suleiman Hunkuyi scored 21,405 votes.

Binani vs Fintiri: Adamawa governorship election inconclusive

The Adamawa governorship election being hotly contested by Senator Aisha Binani of APC and Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of PDP has been declared inconclusive.

Prof. Mohammed Mele, the state INEC returning officer said that the election was cancelled in 47 registration areas, 69 polling Units with the total number of 41,796 registered voters.

“The number of Permanent Voter Cards (VCs) from the affected polling units in the different Local Government Areas (LGAs) affected is 37,016.

“After the collation we calculated the total number of votes with the two leading candidates with the highest votes, APC with 390,275 and PDP with 421, 524 votes.

“So this gives us the margin of 31,249 and the total number of PVCs collected in the places amounts to 37,916,” he said.

The APC and women groups alleged that there were moves to rig out the only female in the governorship race in the state.

Official: APC governorship candidates win Borno, Cross River, Niger, Benue

Governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress handily won the polls in Benue, Niger, Cross River and Borno states, according to the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

In Makurdi, INEC declared Fr. Hyacinth Alia, a Catholic Priest as winner of the governorship election in Benue.

INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Farouk Kuta, who is also the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology Minna, announced the result in Makurdi on Monday.

He said Alia won the election with 473,933 votes to defeat his closest rival, Titus Uba of the PDP who got 223,913 votes.

The returning officer said though election did not hold in Kwande Local Government Area, the difference in votes between Alia and the PDP candidate was 251,020 votes.

Kuta said explained that the election in Kwande LGA would not substantially affect the final vote tally even if it was held.

He added that he took the decision to announce the result in line with Section 24(2) of the Electoral Act

In Minna, Niger State, INEC declared Umar Bago of the APC as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election.

Prof. Clement Alawa, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academics, University of Abuja, the INEC Returning Officer, announced the results of the election on Monday in Minna.

Alawa said that Bago polled 469,896 votes to defeat his closest rival, Alhaji Isah Liman-Kantigi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 387,476 votes.

He said that Dr Joshua Bawa of the Labour Party (LP) got 3415 votes and Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 3,378 votes.

Similarly in Cross River, Sen. Bassey Otu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the governorship election.

He won in 15 out of the 18 local government areas in the state.

Announcing the result on Monday in Calabar, the Returning Officer, Prof. Teddy Adies, said APC polled 258,619 votes.

He said that the People’s Democratic Party got 179,636 votes while the Labour Party garnered 5,957 votes.

According to him, the total number of registered voters was 1,766,466, accredited voters 466,294, valid votes 451,933, and void votes 8,923.

“Eleven political parties participated in this election and for the results to get to us here at the state level, it had to pass through the Polling Units, the Ward Collation Centres and the collation centre at the the Local Government Levels.

“Otu of the APC after satisfying the requirement of the law has been returned elected,” the Returning Officer said.

In Borno State, Gov. Babagana Zulum was re-elected

The Returning Officer, Prof. Jude Rabo, while announcing the result, said Zulum of All Progressives Congress (APC) pulled 545, 542 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mohammed Jajari of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who got 82,147 votes.

Zulum’s party won all the 28 House of Assembly seats.

Incumbent Speaker of the assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan ( APC-Guzamala), the longest serving speaker won for the fifth time.

Oborevwori wins Delta governorship poll, Omo-Agege alleges fraud

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Chief Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the governorship election in Delta.

The State INEC Collation Officer, Prof. Onuwari Georgewill, the Vice Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt, made the declaration on Monday in Asaba.

Georgewill said that Oborevwori polled a total of 360,234 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressive Party (APC) who scored 240,229 votes.

“Sheriff Oborevwori having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner of the governorship election and returned elected,” he said.

Georgewill said that Mr Kennedy Pela of the Labour Party came third with 48,027 votes, while Mr Great Ogboru of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) came fourth with 11,021 votes.

He said the number of registered voters was 3,221 687, while the total number of accredited voters was 710,829.

Georgewill added that the total number of rejected votes was 15,384 and the total votes cast was 687,121.

A breakdown of the results on local government basis, as announced by the local government Collation Officers, showed that Oborevwori won in 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs),while Omo-Agege won in four out of the 25 LGAs of the state.

Oborevwori won in Ika North East; Aniocha North; Ndokwa East; Ika South; Patani; Sapele; Aniocha South; Uvwie; Okpe; Bomadi; Ethiope East; Oshimili North; Warri South; and Oshimili South.

He also won in Isoko North; Ethiope West; Isoko South; Ukwuani; Ndokwa West; Warri North; Burutu; and Warri South West.

Omo-Agege won in Udu, Uvwie, Ughelli South and Ughelli North.

In a reaction, Omo-Agege described Oborevwori’s victory as too fraudulent, damning and daring for it to be acceptable in any decent society, adding that he would challenge it in court.

Omo-Agege said the election was characterised by massive fraud, unprecedented vote buying and voter suppression perpetrated by the PDP.

“Most of those infractions are on the public domain and known to INEC officials and the security agencies involved in superintending the election.

“On the basis of the factors listed and more that will come later, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, governorship candidate of the APC in Delta State as well as the leadership of the party, unequivocally reject the declaration by INEC of Sheriff Oborevwori of the PDP as winner of the March 18 governorship election.

“We will challenge this fraudulent result using all legal means.

“As a democrat and Deputy President of the Senate, Omo-Agege will explore all lawful avenues to reclaim the mandate freely given to him by the good people of Delta State,” he said.

Women rally round Aisha Binani over Adamawa poll

President of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Hajiya Lami Adamu-Lau has stressed the need for peace and justice to prevail over the governorship election in Adamawa State.

She made the call on Monday at a news briefing in Abuja, which was attended by various women groups in solidarity to the APC governorship candidate, Sen. Aisha Binani.

Adamu-Lau urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to release the Adamawa state governorship result and ensure that the will of the people prevailed.

She said that the call became necessary to ease tension that was currently building in the state.

”We want the umpire to uphold the election guidelines and do everything possible to ensure that the result is not manipulated.

“The people have spoken through their votes, it should be allowed to stand, ” she said.

She said the council was monitoring the progress and know that the exercise was postponed to enable verification of the results from Fufore Local Government Area.

“We want INEC to do the needful and release the result for peace to prevail in the state.

“I urged INEC to ensure justice in collating the results before the declaration,” she said.
Lami said that the Nigerian Women still had faith in INEC to do the needful and and ensure that justice prevailed.

Also speaking, Mrs Pauline Tallen, Minister of Women Affairs, stressed the need to end all forms of injustices, violence against women and rape to the Nation’ s democracy.

Tallen, represented by the Senior Special Assistant, Technical, Mrs. Jummai Idomije, said: ” We must get it right this time.

” Enough is enough. Nigerian women believe in the capability of INEC to release a just result so that Nigerian women can have a voice in national development.”

INEC declares Nwifuru of APC as Ebonyi governor-elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abakaliki on Monday, declared APC governorship candidate, Mr Francis Nwifuru as winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The INEC’s State Collation Officer, Prof. Charles Igwe, Vice-Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) declared Nwifuru as the winner having satisfied the electoral act.

Igwe said that Nwifuru polled 199, 131 votes to win the poll.

According to him, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected by the Returning Officer.

He said Prof. Bernard Odoh of APGA, polled 52,189 votes, while Dr Ifeanyi Odii of the PDP, polled 80,191 votes.

He said that the total number of accredited votes was 350,345, out of the 1,597,646 registered votes in the state.

He added that the total votes cast was 349,941, valid vote, 342,554, while the rejected votes stood at 7,387.

The governor-elect won in 10 out of the 13 Local Government Areas of the state, while the APGA candidate won in two LGAs and the PDP candidate one.

Nwifuru would be the fourth executive governor of the 27 year-old state

Aisha Binani: APC alerts on PDP executive brigandage

The All Progressives Congress has warned against moves by powerful forces in Adamawa State to alter the victory of Senator Aisha Binani as the elected governor.

In a statement Monday, titled, ADAMAWA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION – EXECUTIVE BRIGANDAGE MUST NOT PREVAIL AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE, the APC drew attention to intimidating moves calculated to disrupt final collation and announcement of result of the Governorship election in the state.

The statement by National Publicity secretary Felix Morka reads:

We draw urgent attention of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and our security services to massive thuggery, violence, intimidation and undue pressure by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) calculated to disrupt final collation and announcement of result of the Governorship election in Adamawa State.

Election results show a clear and decisive victory for Senator Aishatu Dahiru (Binani), the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate.

Faced with imminent and certain prospect of loss in the election, thugs and political actors led by incumbent Governor, and Candidate of the PDP, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, have unleashed heavily armed thugs to disrupt further collation of result and subvert the will of Adamawa people as expressed at the polls. The Governor is reported to have torn result sheets at the collation centre in a show of unprecedented impunity and executive brigandage.

We are well aware of the massive pressure on INEC and law enforcement authorities to cave in to the inordinate demands of the PDP to subvert final collation and announcement of result. However, we are supremely confident that INEC and our law enforcement authorities will stand firm and conclude the election process in the State as required by law.

The result of election in Fufore Local Government Area of the state must not be tampered with as Senator Aishatu Dahiru (Binani) holds a clear, unassailable lead, only awaiting final collation and declaration by INEC.

Nigeria is on the cusp of a major democratic record with the election and emergence of the first female Governor of a State in the country.

We urge all well meaning Nigerians to stand together to protect and uphold this historic victory for women and our country.

Abdullahi Sule re-elected Nasarawa governor

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Gov. Abdullahi Sule, candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of governorship election in Nasarawa State.

Prof Ishaya Tanko, INEC State Collation Officer and Returning Officer made the declaration on Monday in Lafia at the Nasarawa State Collation Centre.

The INEC returning officer said that the APC candidate polled a total of 347, 209 votes to defeat his closest opponent David Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 283, 016 votes.

The returning officer therefore, said:” Abdullahi Sule of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes in the election is hereby declared winner and returned elected”.

In 2019, Sule won the governorship election by polling 327,229 votes to defeat the same Ombugadu of the PDP who scored 184,281 votes.

Mr Labaran Maku of the All Progressives Grand Alliance polled a total of 132,784 votes at the election.

The result indicated that APC won in 11 out of the 13 local government areas of the state

Curfew in Kano after INEC declared Abba Yusuf governor-elect

Kano State Government on Monday imposed a dawn to dusk curfew following tension generated by the declaration of Malam Abba Yusuf, candidate of New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), as winner of the governorship election.

The state Commissioner for Information and internal affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, made the announcement in a statement on Monday.

He said the decision was to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the already tense situation.

The commissioner called on people in the state to remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone or group bent on causing trouble.

INEC said Abba Yusuf beat the Deputy Governor Yusuf Gawuna at the poll.

The state Returning Officer, Prof. Doko Ibrahim, the Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, said Yusuf polled 1,019,602 votes to clinch the seat.

Yusuf Gawuna, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 892,705 votes.

The election was contested by 18 candidates.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, Abba Kabiru Yusuf of the NNPP is hereby declared winner and returned elected,” Ibrahim said.

Former Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Dr Nasir Danladi-Bako has congratulated the Sokoto State Governor-elect, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu of the APC on his resounding victory at Saturday’s gubernatorial election.

“This is a victory well deserved for yourself, the party and the good people of our dear state especially the young generation,” the member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Media Directorate said in a statement he issued on Monday in Sokoto.

Danladi-Bako said:”Particular mention and commendation was heaped on the APC leader in Sokoto and former Governor, Sen. Aliyu Wammako for his indefatigable leadership and unrivalled doggedness in steering the party to this hard-earned victory.

”Praise must also go to the Minister of Police Affairs , Director- General of the State Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi for his sterling performance in ensuring the victory of the All Progressives Congress in Sokoto.”

He testified to the loyalty and selfless service of Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu and wished him Allah’s guidance in his new assignment, saying, ”we were once members of the State Executive Council with Aliyu.”
