Tinubu in Ondo with Akeredolu

Letter to Obi supporter: Why the odds favour Tinubu to win February election

Dear Prof. Chidi Odinkalu,

THE ODDS FAVOURS TINUBU TO WIN THE 2023 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

For those running around focusing on Tinubu’s age, certificates, alleged ill-health, bublubla and Muslim-Muslim ticket, that is an ineffective political tactic.

Here is Atiku’s challenge. It is in the numbers! The same applies to Peter Obi or Kwankwaso.

Below are 14 Northern states with APC governors.
Which one do you think Atiku’s PDP, or Kwankwanso’s NNPP or Peter Obi’s Labour Party will win?

1. Borno state: Babagana Zulum
2. Gombe state: Inuwa Yahaya
3. Jigawa state: Badaru Mohammed
4. Kaduna state: Nasir El Rufai
5. Kano state: Umar Ganduje
6. Katsina state: Aminu Masari
7. Kwara state: Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq
8. Nasarawa state: Abdullahi Sule
9. Niger state: Abubakar Bello
10. Plateau state: Simon Lalong
11. Zamfara state: Bello Matawalle
12. Kebbi state: Atiku Bagudu
13. Yobe state: Mai Mala Buni
14. Kogi State: Yahaya Bello

At the Eagle Square in Abuja, 13 of them campaigned for and got Tinubu elected as the Presidential flag bearer of the APC. Today, all these governors, including Yaya Bello of Kogi State are supporting Tinubu and there is no crack in their ranks.

Can Atiku or Kwankwanso or Obi peel away any of these governors?

Can any of these opposition candidates win any of these states without the governor’s support?

For emphasis I have also included the south-western states under APC control or in Tinubu’s electoral basket:

The South-Western APC state are:
1. Lagos: Sanwo-Olu
2. Ekiti: Abiodun Oyebanji
3. Ogun: Dapo Abiodun
4. Ondo: Rotimi Akeredolu
5. Osun
6. Oyo
Which of these states can Atiku or Kwankwanso or Obi win?

To complicate Atiku’s path to victory is the enthusiasm being generated mostly in some southern cities for Peter Obi’s Candidacy. In the south, the PDP is mostly dominant in the South South and South East. Even 3 of the governors in these states are APC!

In 2015, the APC won mainly because all the opposition political parties merged and formed a formidable political platform whereas the ruling PDP was enmeshed in an intractable crisis and a political war of attrition with at least 5 sitting governors, the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, several senators and House of Representatives members including serving Ministers leaving the party.

The exact reverse scenario is playing out in 2023. The APC is intact but the opposition is sinking deeper into opposition and is fragmented with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwanso leaving the PDP. The PDP G-5 governors have crossed the rubicon and will not be supporting Atiku’s candidacy in the presidential election. They are expected to declare their support for either Tinubu or less likely Peter Obi in the coming days. This will be fatal to Atiku’s chances and unlikely to shore up Peter Obi’s chances in any significant manner.

Until we see a crack in the APC governors’ support, Tinubu is sitting pretty well and the odds are clearly in his favour to win.

The opponents of the APC Candidate say the Buhari administration has not done well but this is vehemently contested by APC party stalwarts who insist that Buhari is the best thing to happen to Nigeria. Will this count during the 2023 Presidential election? The answer so far is No, using Ekiti governorship election as a barometer, even though it is a very small sample size.

Even the Osun election was won by PDP simply because Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and his faction of the APC were alleged to have worked against the candidate of the APC.

Those opposed to Tinubu, rather than hold him to a campaign of issues are wasting their time with his age, alleged ill-health, his Muslim choice as running mate etc. They even want the courts and INEC to disqualify Tinubu. None of these will work or even happen!

Indeed, Tinubu has so far campaigned more hungrily and more comprehensively than any of his challengers. From the UK to Saudi Arabia, then Kano and Edo states and then back to Kano…all in 4 days!

On Monday, 9th January, he will be in Adamawa state with President Muhammadu Buhari leading the charge for votes in the state and other core northern states in quick succession putting a lie to the claim by the PDP that Buhari has vowed not to join the Asiwaju campaign train. The supposedly fitter candidates are all lagging behind Asiwaju.

The only way to defeat Tinubu will be at the ballot by all the opposition candidates stepping down for only one of them but this will also never happen.

Tinubu is still in pole position for now and coasting to victory.

Atiku lacks the bite….majority of southerners are also unlikely to stomach a potential 16 years of a northerner presidency. In a very commendable display of statesmanship, patriotism and to guarantee national cohesion stability, the political leaders of Northern Nigeria also desire to respect the North-South power rotation on which plank President Goodluck Jonathan was defeated in the North and then eventually nationally in 2015.

It is almost late in the day to upstage the entrenched political system in Nigeria and by the current political and electoral system and in a free and fair contest, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu appears unstoppable and a Jagaban presidency looms large.

Tinubu pledged to honour all his campaign promises to Nigerians, in a speech at the rally, which saw people from all the Northern states offer their support.

They described him as a detribalised Nigerian.

The APC Presidential candidate promised that under his leadership, Nigerians will live in peace regardless of ethnicity and religious differences.

“My respect for this country will continue to increase, and I will honour all my pledges that we all will live in harmony. We belong in each other’s hearts,” he noted.

In his prepared speech, former Lagos State Governor also assured that his government would be for all Nigerians, not favouring any religion or tribe.

He said a testament to this was when he, as Lagos State Governor, appointed people into the state cabinet from other regions of the country.

“From the moment I enlisted in politics, I have always been nationalistic and detribalised in my approach. I do not operate on the basis of ethnicity, region or religion. I have friends and associates in all corners of this country.

“As governor of Lagos State, I constituted a cabinet, comprising competent people from all parts of Nigeria. We had the Yoruba, as we had the Igbo and Arewa. What was important to me was not your ethnicity or creed, it was your competence and the value you would bring to governance and people.

“To replicate this feat for the country is why I have offered myself for the presidency,” he said.

On his plans for the country most especially for the North, Tinubu promised to tackle the security situation being experienced across the country, stating that the economy cannot thrive in an insecure environment.

He added, “If elected president, my highest priorities shall be the protection of our land and prosperity of its people. I shall tackle this nation’s problems with a commitment to solving them.

“I will give priority to confronting security, making the economy one of widely shared prosperity and paying special attention to agriculture like the present government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“On security, my policy is not an artificial created to sound good for this campaign. Our security policy is based on dedicated study and long conversations with experts in this field.

“I used the same approach to tackle the bad security situation that faced me when I became governor of Lagos.

“I created programs and institutions to solve the real and dangerous challenges Lagos faced. I shall increase security personnel and better equip them. Advanced air and ground surveillance technology will identify, track and attack the criminals until they are utterly defeated.”

He also promised to provide jobs for the nation’s youths, while also ensuring that electricity generation is improved to allow more people to start up small businesses to feed their families.

He added that great attention would be given to agriculture, to ensure that there is increased food security through enhanced productivity and improved farm incomes, thus returning farming to its prominent position.

He said massive investments would be made in road and rail infrastructure to ensure easy movement of goods and products while also strengthening the education sector to guarantee the future and guide the youth toward better lives.

“We will invest in the Kolmani Oil Wells Project inaugurated by President Buhari and indeed in all vital infrastructural projects such as the Mambilla Power Project, the AKK gas pipeline projects.

“We shall revive our inland waterways through the dredging of the River Niger and make sure we cut down on our steel import bill by making the Ajaokuta Steel Company work,” he added.

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said Nigeria is a country of diversity and noted that Asíwájú has demonstrated that he could utilise the country’s diversity for development and prosperity.

“He is a symbol of unity, a product of unity in diversity. He is the right person to be endorsed by Arewa and the best for the presidency,” he said.

The Chairman Arewa Community APC, Alhaji Saadu Yusuf Gulma Dandare, said Asíwájú Tinubu had done a lot for Lagos and Nigeria, adding that if the country has more of him in each geopolitical zones, it will be a better place and people will not be flocking Lagos.

Why Tinubu will win February election

,

Sen. Sani Musa (APC/Niger East), has said that the antecedents of Sen Ahmed Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, would give him victory in the 2023 election.

Musa told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in a telephone interview on Sunday that Tinubu also had the followers and supporters to win the nation’s top seat.

“Tinubu possesses enormous qualities to make Nigeria great again.

“His legacies in Lagos are responsible for its rising economic fortunes that has made it the economic hub of West Africa.

“Tinubu remains the best for Nigeria today in terms of experience, exposure and commitment to a better Nigeria for generations yet unborn.”

Sani expressed optimism that Tinubu would attract foreign investments into the Nigeria while building the home economy, just like he did in Lagos.

“In Tinubu, we have an astute political strategist, an economist and administrator whose contributions to democracy resonates across the country and beyond.

“He has the capacity, experience, knowledge, the firmness; he understands governance and would bring that to bear in his leadership. He has done it before and will do it again, he is tested and trusted. He transformed Lagos to what it is today.

Since 1999 and after leaving office as the Governor of Lagos State, he has consistently led his party to victory. No politician in Nigeria for the past 21 years has that unbeatable track record.

” I strongly appeal to all eligible Nigerians to embrace Tinubu project and work assiduously for the success of our great party in 2023. Tinubu remains committed to changing the narratives and would surpass the expectations of Nigerians.”

Musa said Tinubu has the foresight to identify Nigeria’s problems and solve them headlong just as he transformed Lagos to what it is today.

“Let him reenact the feat at the national level.I urge all our party members and Nigerians to rally support for Tinubu to emerge as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023”, he said.

Katsina deputy governor boosts Tinubu-Shettima campaign

,

Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, has donated seven vehicles to the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council in Katsina State.

His media aide, Malam Ibrahim Kallah said the vehicles would also help in the governorship campaigns in the state.

“The deputy governor is the Assistant Director in the Contact and Mobilisation Committee of the Tinubu Campaign Council.

“He gave the vehicles when he chaired the maiden meeting of the Katsina State Northwest Contact and Mobilisation Committee of the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC),’’ he said.

Kallah said the deputy governor told the committee at the meeting that Katsina State has a single campaign structure for the presidential and governorship contests.

He quoted the Assistant Secretary of the council, Dr Talatu Nasir, to have told the meeting that the deputy governor already opened seven offices for the campaign council in the state.

“Dr Nasir said subcommittees had been constituted to assist in intensifying the activities of the campaign council.

“She also called for support from all members to achieve set objectives,’’ Kallah told NAN.

About

Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man of many traditional honours across the country, from north to south, west to east. The array of titles he has garnered was only comparable to that of Chief Moshood Abiola, winner of the 1993 Presidential election.
